Most Texas homeowners policies include watercraft coverage capped around $1,000 to $1,500 with almost no liability, and typically exclude boats above a small horsepower or length threshold. On the Coastal Bend that is not coverage – it is a rounding error.

Many coastal policies reimburse part of the cost to haul out and secure your boat when a named storm is forecast – often 50% up to a set limit. It only pays if you act before landfall, and only if the coverage is on the policy. Ask for it by name before hurricane season.
Agreed value pays the number written on the policy if the boat is a total loss. Actual cash value subtracts depreciation, which on a ten-year-old boat can be half. The premium difference is usually small; the claim difference is not.
Policies define where you can take the boat and when. Run offshore beyond your navigation limit or leave the boat in the water during a lay-up period and a claim can be denied. We set the limits to how you actually use it.
We start with how and where you use the boat: bay fishing, offshore runs, wakeboarding on a lake, or dock queen. Navigation limits, lay-up periods and liability limits all follow from that.
Then we set agreed value on the hull, schedule the motor and electronics, and confirm fuel spill and wreck removal limits, which are legally your responsibility and can dwarf the value of the boat itself.
Hurricane haul-out reimbursement gets added before June, not in August. Carriers commonly bind restrictions once a named storm enters the Gulf, so waiting means you cannot get it.
If the boat lives on a trailer at your house, we also check how your homeowners and auto policies interact with it in transit and in storage.
Not by state law, but marinas and lenders almost always require liability coverage.
It can, and should – trailer damage in transit is a common claim.
Personal watercraft are written similarly and are excluded from most homeowners policies entirely.
